Andrew Rice is an author and contributing editor at New York Magazine. During his ICWA fellowship in Uganda (2002–2004), he explored the role of President Yoweri Museveni’s administration in a broader “African renaissance.” His experience in Africa was the basis of his first book, The Teeth May Smile but the Heart Does Not Forget, which was listed among Kirkus Review’s Best Books of 2009. He also wrote The Year That Broke America, about the year 2000. He began his career at newspapers in Philadelphia and Washington before joining the reporting staff of the New York Observer. Andrew majored in government at Georgetown University with a minor in theology.
