Chi-Chi Zhang is a journalist who is senior director of product for machine learning at Yahoo News, where she oversees product-development strategy for the organization’s personalization algorithms. As an ICWA fellow in China from 2013 to 2015, she investigated youth in China and their role in the country’s political, economic and social development. Later, she led a team at Google News expanding AI capabilities for global newsrooms and building consumer news products. She also worked at the edtech startup edX.org, focusing on expanding the company’s business in Asian markets. In 2017, she received the president’s Volunteer Service Award for her teaching work with citizen schools in Boston. Before her fellowship, Chi-Chi spent seven years as a producer for CNN and also worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in China. She holds an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School and a bachelor’s from the University of Utah.
