David Mixner LGBTQ+ Fellowship

David Mixner was a towering figure in the global fight for LGBTQ+ rights and ardent advocate of peace and justice. His relentless efforts inspired ICWA to establish the David Mixner LGBTQ+ Fellowship with the support of its trustees and sponsors.

The two-year independent research and writing fellowship enables an outstanding young professional to travel, study and write about international LGBTQ+ issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the global challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community, and its advances.

“ICWA’s deep cultural immersion program gives fellows of high intelligence and promise the time and resources to examine some of the most salient global issues,” ICWA’s Executive Director Gregory Feifer said. “The Mixner Fellowship supports David Mixner’s legacy because the understanding of international societies it cultivates is critical for fostering social change.”

Mixner said in 2003 that he was humbled to have the fellowship named after him, “especially for international work because I’ve done years and years of international work and it means the world to me.”_
