Jeffrey Race

Jeffrey Race is a political analyst whose 1972 book, War Comes to Long An, is considered a canonical analysis of why the US military campaign in Vietnam turned out so badly. An ICWA fellow from 1973 to 1976, Jeff studied social institutions and the political economy of change in Southeast Asia, particularly Thailand and the Philippines. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a PhD from Harvard University, and he lived in Asia for 45 years.
