This week in 1971, The New York Times published the Pentagon Papers, a classified Defense Department history of US political and military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967. It revealed that the government had been lying to the American people about the war for years. The publication also established that the government cannot engage in the prior restraint of the press. 48 years later, we are reminded that ICWA alumnus Jeff Race (Southeast Asia, 1973-1976) hid the Pentagon Papers in his basement near Harvard Square to save for release.
