Shannon Sims is an independent journalist based in Houston, Texas. On her ICWA Forest and Society Fellowship in Brazil in 2012–2014, she explored issues of gender, culture and the environment. Her reporting covers travel, climate and how communities adapt to environmental threats. Fluent in Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, she has reported from more than 30 countries, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Washington Post and The Guardian. She received a Lowell Thomas Travel Award and was included in The Best American Travel Writing anthology. Shannon holds a JD from the University of Texas School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College.
