Media & Communications Internship Description

Background: The Institute of Current World affairs (ICWA), one of the oldest global fellowship programs in the world, offers a unique internship opportunity with immediate responsibility and opportunity. The individual will be part of a small team, helping ICWA communicate with our network and the public.

Internship Description: ICWA is in search of a motivated intern to get hands-on experience learning to manage the inner workings of a small, well-established and active nonprofit. The intern will support the team with website updating, social media strategy, content creation and other tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate enjoys having a diverse range of responsibilities, possesses an eye for aesthetics, enjoys social media and writes well. In addition to normal working hours, the internship may require one evening per month.

Option to pursue journalism opportunities on our website and support in journalistic research.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing social media strategy
  • Developing and implementing content and content calendar
  • Social media upkeep, posting and development
  • Website posting and writing content for the ICWA website
  • Support the planning and staffing of ICWA events
  • Assist with the development of marketing materials
  • Other duties as assigned or as requested per your interests

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of social media best practices (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Excellent skills in communication and attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work on your own
  • Demonstrated writing and proofreading skills, including an excellent understanding of grammar and syntax, to write clear and concise correspondence
  • Proficiency in Adobe products (i.e. Photoshop, Indesign, etc.) is a bonus
  • Experience working with podcasts is a bonus

Development Internship Description

  • Conduct short research on foundations and corporations
  • Support the planning and staffing of ICWA events
  • Assist with the maintenance of the development database and entry
  • Other duties as assigned or as requested per your interests

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of development best practices
  • Excellent skills in research and attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and work on your own
  • Demonstrated writing and proofreading skills
