Warren Unna was a journalist who wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle before joining The Washington Post in 1952. During his ICWA fellowship from 1958 to 1959, he traveled to some 50 countries writing about conditions in countries belonging to the Non-Aligned movement—before that became a widespread term—in Asia and Europe, interviewing many leaders. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, he returned to the Post after his fellowship, serving as bureau chief in New Delhi from 1965 to 1967, then covering national affairs in Washington. Warren’s work landed him on President Richard Nixon’s enemies list in the 1970s. After his retirement from the Post in the 1980s, he served as a correspondent for the Kolkata-based The Statesman in Washington. His book Letters from America was published in 1994.
