Welcome to the Centennial Global Council

Welcome to the Centennial Global Council

To celebrate the Institute of Current World Affairs’s upcoming 100th anniversary, the Board of Trustees invites you to become a founding member of the Centennial Global Council established to further develop and secure our crucial mission for a second century.

Since its founding in 1925, the Institute of Current World Affairs has sent young women and men abroad to acquire deep knowledge of foreign countries and cultures—a mission as important today as when it was launched.

Institute fellows have become some of our country’s leading journalists, scholars, diplomats, activists and businesspeople based on the unique fellowships first designed by our founders Charles R. Crane and Walter Rogers. We continue their tradition with your support.

100 years of the Institute of Current World Affairs

Join the Centennial Global Council today and support dispatching more ICWA fellows across the globe. Members of the King-Crane Commission in 1919 led by ICWA founder Charles Crane (first row, third from right). Established by President Woodrow Wilson during the Paris Peace Conference ending World War I, the allied commission spent two years traveling the Middle East to determine the fate of segments of the defeated Ottoman Empire under the policy of “self-determination of nations.” Crane founded ICWA soon after to give the United States the kind of on-the-ground understanding of foreign affairs enjoyed by the European great powers that were already determining who was going to get what in the Middle East by secret negotiation and treaty.
