Former Fellow Suzy Hansen (Turkey, 2007-2009) wrote an article published by The Washington Post regarding the existence of “two Americas— one at home and one abroad.” Hansen remarks that Americans are only aware of the “Hollywood, work-in-progress democracy, civil rights movements and Ellis Island” America, but not the existence of the America known to the rest of the world.
