Former Fellow Andrew Tabler (Lebanon, Syria, 2005-2007) was featured in an article published by The National regarding the major offensive planned by the Syrian government against the city of Deir Ezzor, one of ISIL’s last strongholds in the country. Tabler notes that “the US had indirectly made the Syrian government’s gains possible by helping negotiate ceasefires in other parts of the country.”
