Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly called President Donald Trump his country’s “greatest friend,” but the truth is quite different, former fellow Neri Zilber (Israel, 2011-2013) writes in the Forward.

Instead, Trump’s moves of support “were solely the province of Israel’s revanchist Right; no matter too that they would likely damage Israel’s long-term national security interests (for instance, undermining the prospect of a genuine two-state solution and ensuring Israel’s Jewish and democratic future),” Neri writes.
