Jonathan Guyer reports about the arrest of vlogger Shadi Abu Zeid and an overall hostile environment for journalists in President Sisi’s Egypt. “One might argue that the primary difference between Abu Zeid and the thousands of others currently detained in Egyptian custody is that we know the young comedian’s name,” he writes. Jonathan was a fellow of the institute in Egypt in 2015-2017.
