The institute joined The Explorers Club on May 4, 2021 for the release of New Yorker writer and ICWA fellow in Pakistan (2006-2008) Nicholas Schmidle‘s new book, Test Gods: Virgin Galactic and the Making of a Modern Astronaut. Explorers president, astronaut and polar/deep sea explorer Richard Garriott spoke to Nick about the book and the future of space flight.

In the spirit of The Right Stuff, updated for the 21st century, Test Gods is an epic story about extreme bravery and sacrifice, about the thin line between lunacy and genius. Most of all, it is a story about the pursuit of meaning in our lives—and the fulfillment of our dreams.

Read Nick’s recent pieces about the book in The New York TimesGQ and The Washington Post.

Special thanks to Milbry C. Polk, honorary chair of ICWA’s Centennial Global Council and board member of the Explorers Club.
