ADA University in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku has awarded an honorary doctorate to former ICWA fellow Thomas Goltz (Turkey, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Iran, 1990-92) for his research and publications on Azerbaijan and the wider Caspian region. Thomas is best known for his reporting on conflict in the Caucasus, including his books on Azerbaijan, Georgia and Chechnya.

The ceremony, presided by Rector Hafiz Pashayev, included ambassadors, scholars and students.

Thomas thanked Pashayev with a gift of Minnesota wild rice and showed a video about his early association with Azerbaijan. He also donated his Caucasus library of about 300 books to ADA.
