Some Germans have already received notice their heating costs could double this winter, Emily Schultheis (Germany, 2019-2021) writes for TIME. The government has called on people to cut back on gas-powered showers and laundry, and prohibited businesses from heating swimming pools.
One expert says the situation is serious but not unmanageable, Emily reports: “It’s in our hands how good or bad this will be… we can avoid [a worst-case scenario] if we do a lot of things now.”
