Peter was the National Wilderness Program lead for the US Bureau of Land Management, overseeing policy and budget for 263 designated Wilderness Areas and 487 Wilderness Study Areas across 12 western states, totaling over 21 million acres. He also served on national and international committees, providing expertise on wilderness stewardship issues. At the US Department of the Interior, Peter managed a multimillion-dollar financial and technical assistance portfolio in Asia, Latin America and Africa, developing international conservation initiatives with foreign governments around the world.
