Andrew Weil Fellow Rowland Robinson began in 2024 investigating integrative health care for addiction and problem substance use in the Netherlands, Portugal and Brazil. He’s getting to understand public policy and practices pioneered by the Netherlands and Portugal, followed by an investigation of how their similar models are also developing in a larger country, Brazil—which implemented a Dutch-style drug law more recently in 2006—and drawing vital lessons for US policy. Rowland was previously a legislative assistant for US Senator Angus King and an opioid response project manager for the state of Maine.
