International peace deals will not help Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu control the fires burning at home, former fellow Neri Zilber (Israel, 2011-2013) writes in the Daily Beast. Netanyahu’s diplomatic victories were barely noticed by a population heading back into lockdown, suffering the highest per capita daily Covid-19 infections.
“There is a lot of anger with the government,” a local journalist tells Neri. “The first lockdown [in March/April] was traumatic. With Netanyahu now in Washington, it reinforces the sense that he’s disconnected.”
