Stuck inside her New York apartment during the coronavirus pandemic, Karina Piser (France, 2017-2019) tries to recreate her grandmother’s cachkitas—savory cookies with butter and cumin, topped with sesame seeds. She does very well, even without a recipe, Karina writes in an opinion piece for The New York Times. 

“Savta’s recipes were never much of a science anyway,” she writes. “She cooked from muscle memory, and most of all from love, each dish an extension of her.”
